Finally...Photos!

Our delicious swearing in cake

Craig and Jill!...how I strangely miss those trying days of training

Mama Anita, Johanna and me with the US Ambassader Robert Callahan (maybe I'll go into that field some day, it doesn't seem like such a bad life)

Thanks for the photos! Let's talk on Skype soon ... we have it set up now.

Don't forget the extremely dark side of representing the US in Latin America, including Robert Callahan's involvement in engineering the bloody Contra war in the 1980s. From an article by Stephen Kinzer (the journalist Just Foreign Policy took on a 20-city tour last year):

"The US state department has informed Nicaragua that the new American ambassador here will be Robert Callahan, who was the press attaché at the US embassy in Honduras when that embassy was a nerve centre for the contra war.

In Honduras, Callahan served as spokesman and speechwriter for ambassador John Negroponte. Years later, when Negroponte became director of national intelligence, he brought Callahan along as his public affairs director. It was Negroponte, now deputy secretary of state, who engineered Callahan's recent nomination.

Here in Managua, not surprisingly, some have been taken aback by the decision of the United States to name an ambassador to Nicaragua who was once involved in waging war against Nicaragua."
